The Impact Feedback Has on a Person's paper

 Hi reader,

My past experiences of giving feedback usually start with saying 2-3 good decisions the writer did and to start positive. Then the next couple of notes I would say would be about decisions that the writer could improve on or could change. This would give the writer a different approach in their writing, and they would choose to accept or reject that suggestion. Similar to how Alfie Kohn said in his piece, Five Reasons to Stop Saying "Good Job!", I would say to the writer that “I like the way you” did a certain thing, and Kohn says that isn’t the best thing to do. He has that “our decisions about what’s good and bad” impact people not learning from their judgment and seek other's approval to see if they work is good or not. I feel confident about giving people useful feedback because I will say one to two sentences of positive about the writer’s work, including their process, and praising their style of writing. Then, I will heavily focus on what the writer can improve on and give them multiple options to use. Praising the author of the work will be important because Gravity Goldberg says that if we show people that their work and effect are appreciated, then the person will think their work wasn’t for nothing. I will try the idea of a “growth mindset,” introduced by Mindshift because they promote the idea of “reinforcing effort” of the person and they can get better at what they are doing. This will help the author feel that they made a good start to their writing but know that they still have more work to do towards a finished product.

Sincerely Raj

  1. I agree that to move forward in life feedback is crucial. While doing most things in life feedback will allow you to better yourself if you take it the right way. Feedback should not only highlight what you have done positively, but what you have done negatively as well. This It can allow you to improve as a person or in the work field as a professional. Though countless people take offense to the criticism, if you listen actively it could improve your abilities immensely. Working for my uncle’s construction company the past 10 years of my life, I’ve had my fair share of criticism. Through the first few years I was very young and wouldn’t accept the criticism as feedback but as insult. Slowly I began to realize that him and his workers weren’t trying to be rude but were trying to teach me to better myself in the field and work smarter not harder. Now nine years later here I am working to receive my construction management degree! Accept the feedback!
