Is Juice WRLD from the Romanticism age?
Hi reader,
The romanticism era started as a way for people to put emphasis on their emotions, and promote that emotion through art. Much of the art and ideas during the time were about the rejection of ideas of order, calmness, and balance, and one modern-day artist keeps the same ideals with art. That artist is named Juice WRLD and his art, music, is primarily focused on emotion-based lyrics and talks about his life through his songs. Songs like Empty, Feeling, Maze, Legends, and countless others all share similar themes of the emotions people go through when losing a person, or being in depression. His music allows people that are going through similar emotions to connect with his music because a lot of time he is going through many struggles and emotions that people feel every day. For example, in his song Empty, he says that his “world revolves around a black hole” and that “same black hole” is in the “place of [his] soul,” this causes him to feel “Empty.” These lines from this song are very impactful and emotional to the listener, and many people are able to connect with this type of song because people are able to cope with their own emotional troubles. This idea of emotion art or in Juice’s case songwriting is exactly what many romanticism thinkers promoted during the 1800’s, and Juice WRLD is a modern day representation of this movement.

Hello Raj,
ReplyDeleteJuice WRLD compared to the romanticism era is a unique comparison upon first thought due to juxtaposition thought that they could be related. However, when you break it down with a comparison of emotional music, it makes sense to compare to the two with the raw feelings expressed in both mediums. A few artists follow along in this idea of expressing themselves deeply, so to help compare the two I thought upon the other artists.

That album cover is beautiful; I definitely think the style could be considered a modern piece of art with connections to the romantic period. I'm not familiar with Juice WRLD but am definitely going to explore his music more after reading your post!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing way to introduce the Romanticism era, definitely Juice WRLD represented depression, and his music makes people connect with that emotion. I am not against about that feeling, however, if it gets to an extreme, it can lead to bad decisions in life. It not rare the cases of top singers who committed suicided because there was a lot of depression inside their lives, and most of them hid it with a fake happiness. Nevertheless, that character represents the actual romanticism.
ReplyDeleteNice work on your connection between modern art and romanticism, I think if there is one artist known for expressing their emotions in there music and making you feel something it would be Juice. You did a good job connecting his lyrics to romanticism, and further explaining what his lyrics were expressing. I think many people rely on music to get them through some of the toughest times, and it's amazing that listening to music can really save peoples lives.
